Market intelligence
Comparable, dated, sourced information about the places people actually move to — costs, conditions and requirements, structured so that two countries can be set side by side.
In development · Philippines first
Expat Advantage is a platform being built for people planning, executing and living a move to another country. The product is market intelligence, planning tools and relocation resources — held to a research standard, not a travel-blog one.
The platform is not yet open to the public. This site explains what Expat Advantage is, what is being built, and how to reach us.
Expat Advantage exists to remove information asymmetry. The people who already live somewhere know what a fair rent is, which visa route actually applies, and which costs arrive late. Newcomers usually do not, and pay for the difference.
Comparable, dated, sourced information about the places people actually move to — costs, conditions and requirements, structured so that two countries can be set side by side.
Tools designed to turn a vague intention into a dated plan with a budget attached: timelines, checklists, cost models and currency exposure.
Guidance, templates and reference material for the procedural parts of a move, so the effort goes into the decisions that genuinely need judgement.
The questions change sharply depending on how far along a move is. The platform is being designed around those stages rather than around a single generic user.
Still comparing countries, cities and costs. You need comparable numbers and a clear view of what a move actually requires before you commit to one.
The decision is made and the work is now logistics: visas, timelines, documents, money movement, and the order things have to happen in.
Renewals, changing rules, currency exposure and the long tail of administration that does not stop once you have landed.
People who answer the same questions repeatedly and want reliable, dated, sourced material rather than forum folklore.
Nothing below is available yet. Each theme is labelled with where it actually stands so that this page does not read as a feature list for a product that has not shipped.
Structured pre-move planning: what has to be decided, in what order, and how long each step realistically takes.
Country-specific research written to a consistent structure so two countries can actually be compared. The Philippines first.
Designed to track visa categories, conditions, renewal dates and the documents each stage requires.
Tools intended to model relocation cost, running cost and the gap between an assumed budget and a lived one.
Currency exposure is one of the largest uncontrolled variables in an expat budget. FX tracking is planned as a first-class part of the platform.
Reusable checklists and document templates for the parts of a move that are procedural rather than judgemental.
A fuller breakdown, including community and advisory themes, is on the features page.
Depth beats breadth at the start. Covering one country properly — its visa categories, its costs, its regional differences and the things that catch newcomers out — is more useful than covering twenty countries shallowly.
The platform architecture, the research structure and the brand are all built to be country-agnostic. Additional countries are planned, but we will add them when the research for each one meets the same standard, not before.
Initial research market. Country guidance in development.
Additional markets are planned. None is committed to a date, and we will not name one until the research is under way.
These are the editorial rules the product and its content are being built against. They are the reason to trust anything published here.
Conclusions come first, followed by how they were reached. You should be able to check our working rather than take our word for it.
Immigration rules, prices and exchange rates move. A number without a date attached is not information, and we do not publish one.
Some questions do not have good data behind them. Where that is true we will say so in plain words instead of filling the gap with confidence.
Relocation is an expensive decision that is reversible only at cost. Our job is to make that decision better informed, not more appealing.
